Robert Colbert, of The Time Tunnel, became an actor literally by accident. One day, in 1949, an oil rigging seriously injured his hand making it impossible to continue in that line of work. He became a salesman, and quickly mastered the art of good speaking, self-assurance, and ability to “put it across.”

A tour of duty in the U.S. Army interrupted his career in 1954, with the result that he found himself in a desk job in Okinawa. There he learned that a local radio station was in need of a disc jockey, and with the permission of his commanding officer, Bob soon found himself a D.J.

Back home in Seattle, he resumed his sales career and in his spare time he took acting lessons and appeared in local repertory.

In 1957, he moved to Hollywood where his dark good looks and impressive manner soon won him a long-term contract with Warner Brothers. Following a top role in the film, “Fever in the Blood,” he was given the important part of the “brother” of Jack Kelly in Maverick.
