This is the Year to Come

The new regular programming for this season…is the usual mixture of situation comedies, western, adventure and science-fiction—together with the return of Milton Berle and Garry Moore to the weekly scene. Thirty-four new shows are at the starting gate, the same number as last year. Only a third of last season’s shows survived and the odds are about the same for this year’s entries. It’s up to you to decide which shows will be hits; which will disappear in mid-season or in June. And it’s also up to you to decide which of the many new actors in regular series will become overnight stars—or fade into oblivion.

New on abc

ABC offers a grand total of 16 new shows this year, featuring everything from “camp” crime fighters to young actresses trying to make good in the world of greasepaint (i.e. “show biz”).

“The Time Tunnel” is a science fiction series about two young scientists (James Darren and Robert Colbert) who invent a tunnel that can project them into another time and another place.

James Darren
James Darren was born James Ercolani on June 8, 1936, used to be a night-club singer, though in movies he’s mostly done straight acting. He’s married to beauty contest winner Evy Norlund; has one child by his first wife, 2 more by Evy. Jim’s tall, dark, handsome. He occasionally plays Las Vegas clubs and has made several records. He appears as Dr. Tony Newman in “Time Tunnel”—his first TV series.

Robert Colbert
Robert Colbert, who plays Dr. Doug Phillips, the dedicated scientist, has appeared in virtually every major prime-time television series, including episodes of “The FBI,” “Perry Mason,” “Bonanza” and “The Virginian.” In motion pictures, the handsome and talented actor has been seen in “Fever in the Blood,” “Claudelle Inglish,” “Joy Ride” and “Macabre.” Robert was born in Long Beach, California on July 26. He’s very happily married.

Lee Meriwether
Lee Meriwether has come a long way since she won the “Miss America” title back in 1955. A familiar face to TV viewers for the past few years, she used to be a regular on the “Today” show, also on “Bourbon Street.” A native of Los Angeles, Lee was born May 27, 1935, spent most of her childhood in Phoenix, Ariz. She aspired toward an acting career while in school, used her “Miss America” winnings to pay for dramatic lessons. A sports fan.
